Reuse, Reduce, Rethink Your Disposable Coffee Cup

What size do you like as your daily cup of coffee? Having grown up in Germany I still favor a small (8oz.) cup since I never really got used to the super-sized American system. Luckily KeepCup has reusable cups for everyone in multiple sizes and colors. More specifically there are an incredible 25,000 color combinations. The way it works is that the chic reusable coffee cups are made of four components: the cup, the lid, the plug and an insulating band where you can mark your coffee preference for baristas. To design your own KeepCup you can select a size and individual color for each part on the company’s website. It’s a lot of fun and makes great customized eco-friendly gifts. They are made of non-toxic, food grade polypropylene and are BPA free. Also don’t worry if your need for a daily coffee fix is bigger than mine. There are 4 sizes to choose from: extra small (4oz.), small (8oz.), medium (12oz.), and large (16oz.).

KeepCup was launched in 2009 in Australia by sister and brother team Abigail and Jamie Forsyth. I bought my first KeepCup in New Zealand but have been seeing it quiet frequently in the US lately. Today I used it at my favorite coffee bar Joe in Manhattan where my cappuccino inside the KeepCup was topped off with their signature heart shaped foam. Upon asking the baristas if they accept any reusable cup they mentioned that they don’t discriminate which I really liked. Disposable cups whether made of paper or plastic are a big problem for our environment. Many of them end up in landfills and use precious natural resources for their production. As per KeepCup 500 billion disposable cups are manufactured globally each year. This is about 75 disposable cups for every single person on the planet. That’s why it’s important to reuse. Here comes my favorite part about the colorful KeepCups: you can order lost parts online. It shows that the company really cares about keeping waste out of landfills by extending the life of their chic and reusable cups.
