Stay Healthy with Eco Sun Protection

During my annual skin screening at the dermatologist last week, I discovered Coola’s sunscreen products in the waiting area. Always on the lookout for green products, I noticed the packaging with its clean graphics. The callouts read, “farm to face,” “solar powered suncare” and “70%+ certified organic,” which immediately got my attention. Some of Coola’s skin care products were discounted since they were close to their expiration date, so that I picked up the mineral sunscreen face moisturizer. It’s a SPF 20 broad-spectrum UVA/UVB sunscreen that’s tinted and slightly rose-scented.

We all know that sun exposure can have a lasting impact on the skin such as aging, skin discolorations and even cancer. That’s why I always wear moisturizer with SPF all year long, and add extra protection when going to the beach or on a hike. SPF stands for sun protection factor. Each number refers to the amount of time needed for the skin to get burned with sunscreen protection versus without. For example, if your skin gets burned after 10 minutes of sun exposure, and you put on SPF 2, you can stay outside for twice the time before getting burned. Coola supports local farming while reducing the energy spent on shipping. All formulas are made in the U.S., with the majority of them manufactured in southern California in a solar-powered facility.

In honor of Melanoma Awareness Month, Coola teamed up with the Melanoma Research Alliance to help raise awareness by donating $5 for every Special Edition SPF 50 Sunscreen Spray sold. 100 percent of the donation will be used to support research programs. So, as you spend time outside in the sun, please keep in mind to always wear sunscreen and a hat or sunglasses for extra protection to shield your skin from UV damage. Try to see a dermatologist for a head-to-toe skin exam once a year. Early detection is key when it comes to skin cancer. Be smart about your sun exposure, drink plenty of water and don’t forget to have fun in the sun.
